Overview Here is a list of five peer-reviewed nursing research journal articles on nursing research that are available through the Regis Library. Please read this: Replies Reply to your classmates. In your replies, discuss what surprised you about the theory your peers wrote about and how it’s integrated into the study? What other type of research might this theory be useful in? Classmate’s response, please answer questions as above. That’s highlighted in yellow. The study I chose was: A study to evaluate the effectiveness of planned teaching programme on growth monitoring of children using innovative paediatric growth chart among the third year general nursing and midwifery students in a selected institute at Mangalore. The conceptual framework for the study was developed on the basis of Kings Goal Attainment Model. Kings Goal Attainment Model was developed by Imogene King in the early 1960s. King defines health as the human-environment interaction. She believed that each human is an open system with unique needs, motivations, and wants which are different from those of other humans. She also noted that needs, motivations, and wants significantly affect health (Karch, J. 2018).King’s theory is a nursing theory. King based her theory on four main elements which are as follows: (1) health is attained through appropriate nurse-patient relationship; (2) nurse and patient need to have a mutual understanding about each other; (3) the goals and functions of nurse and patient need to be in line with each other; and (4) nurse needs to use all his/her knowledge to establish relationship and set goals (Karch, J. 2018). These four elements facilitate goal attainment. As the study stated the sample was obtained after informed consent was given. The respondents were reassured their answers were kept private. The study did not specifically state how the framework was used to inform the research study. The framework was mentioned once in the study and then not mentioned again. I believe a better framework model for this study is Benner’s From Novice to Expert.I would choose this Benner’s model over the studies chosen model King’s framework. The novice to expert model was introduced into nursing by Dr. Patricia Benner in 1982 and discussed how nurses develop skills and understanding of patient care over time. The model essentially discusses how an individual begins in the novice stage and, as new skills and knowledge are gained, progresses through a number of stages to end as an expert. The five stages of proficiency in the novice to expert model are: novice, advanced beginner, competent, proficient, and expert ( Davis & Maisano, 2017) .King’s model does not fit with this study because the study does not discuss the nurse to patient relationship. The purpose of the study “was to assess the effectiveness of planned teaching programme using the power point presentation in improving the knowledge of third year GNM students regarding the Innovative Pediatric Growth Chart (Joseph, L. 2013).” Benner’s model of novice to expert fit within the study better as this model looks at the nurses abilities and knowledge and the growth of the knowledge as the nurse gains more experience.ReferenceDavis, A. & Maisano, P.
