Title: Research report : thematic analysis of qualitative data Introduction A good introduction for this –report should include an overview of the the purpose of the research  and the key findings and analysis. You should briefly highlight the importance of research report to the reader. 100 words Epistemology and ethics (second paragraph of introduction) You need to discuss social research and various methodologies, including but not limited to the advantages and disadvantages of qualitative research. The main text of your report would need to include the definitions of epistemology and other ethical issues. Discuss the epistemological perspective of qualitative researchers and how that relates to the interviews you are to analyse. Explain the ethical principles and issues considered by the researcher during the data collection-300 words Method of analysis   Discuss briefly the process of your data analysis.  – 250 words.  Include a table in the appendix on how you analysed your data. NOTE THAT THE TABLE WILL NOT BE PART OF YOUR WORD COUNT. The findings section should address each theme that emerged from your data analysis, supporting them with evidence/quotes from the interviews. You need to use the actual interviewees’ statements as examples (try to use short and relevant statement)-Plagiarism will not be effective on the examples –  1200 words. Discussion In the discussion section, you should focus on your key findings, linking them to existing literature on relevant social issues and theories that related to those themes. You could choose three main themes and discuss them in this section giving in-depth analysis. 550 words Ensure that you include relevant theory for your discussions.  Examples of theories you can use are as below. Relate each theme analysis to a theoretical frame work. Example If prison is a code, you can relate your discussions to Functionalist theory. This theory would point to the positive functions prison might perform in society –Prison could function as a deterrent –. You can also look at Marxists’ argument that by relying on prison, we neglect the dysfunctions of the system that lead to the conditions of inequality and poverty which lead to crime. Select at least 3 codes to critically analyse using theory. –Deontology or teleology: (Is something or a behaviour unacceptable due to the consequences (deontology) or its bad by nature (teleology)?)  – feminism or masculinism: (Does the gender or role of the interviewee or their parents have any impact on the person’s decision making or corruption?)   – Sigmund Freud’s theory: (Does the person’s behaviour root back to their childhood and their mother or father’s relationship.)  – Bronfenbrenner’s theory: (does the person’s behaviour or corruption relate to interviewee’s social life, peer groups or family or friends or society?)  – Functionalist theory: (Discuss how interviewees acknowledge their role in their male relative imprisonment)  – Marxist theory: (use conflict theory to justify some of the themes)  – Poverty: (How any of the themes related to increase of poverty rate in the UK?)  – Social control: (How the government uses some organisations and procedures to control such behaviours?)  – Social justice: (How the state is responding to such cases through policy making and legislation?)  – Exclusion: (how any of the themes related to social exclusion?)  – Social problems: (Does media or other social groups promote or help developing such criminal behaviours?)  – inequality: (how any of the themes lead to any type of inequality?)  Conclusion-   Ensure you have included a in depth conclusion of your own personal findings and opinion. 100 words Reference; Ensure that you use appropriate Harvard referencing style as required by LSST.
