Case Study: WeldWell Limited Australia WeldWell limited is a small to medium enterprise in Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast, who employs approximately 400 people. The firm was started on the Sunshine Coast twenty years ago and currently head office and the distribution centre is still located here. Their primary business is selling welding supplies to the construction, mining and manufacturing industries across Australia.  They also like to consider themselves as a nimble organisation which can quickly move into new market segments and product areas if the opportunity arises.  They have a 200 person call centre working in the Sunshine Coast and a team of 50 salespeople who work across Australia, as well as a 20-person procurement team, warehousing, administration and management staff. The GEO Geoff Duke has the idea that they should open a distribution centre in Sydney and perhaps Melbourne to improve delivery times. However, no plans have been made to make this a reality. He is also interested in exploring opportunities in New Zealand, targeting forestry and the dairy industry. Their business is profitable, and they would like to continue expanding throughout Australia and potentially to other countries. WeldWell Limited has a very good reputation for the staff being extremely knowledgeable about the stock and very helpful in helping customers understand what tools might help them the most. There is an increasing demand for a click and collect service and the management team have been exploring what changes would have to happen to their fulfilment processes to make this happen. One of the problems is that they are finding it difficult to get data from the system that would show what items and how many items they would need to keep on hand. With increased sales and a higher demand for online sales the management of WeldWell Limited have become aware that their website no longer meets their needs. In particular they want a website with good search capability and secure check-out. The management feels that this would be a positive move away from their traditional way of doing things, to a digital way of doing things. However, the team of salespeople who mainly sell to high volume customers who want to be serviced by a salesperson that understands their business and needs still maintain a high level of sales with most salepeople more than meeting sales targets. They are trying to train specialist people in the call centre to act as a backup to the in-person salesperson. They would like some way of marketing to the high value customers that would reduce their dependence on the Salesperson. Currently they are not replacing salespeople as they leave however, this has driven some concern amongst staff. The management is very aware that currently their methods of defining who is a high value customer is driven by salespeople with existing relationships. One of the ideas that is being discussed is to hold specialist events at head office to which they could invite customers. The idea at the moment is that while the event will be no-cost to attendees, for the high value customers outside of South East Queensland, WeldWell Limited will cover the cost of airfares to the Sunshine Coat. They have negotiated promotional rates at the Hotel where they think they will hold the event. Most people in the organisation have difficulty imaging WeldWell Limited operating in a different way, using more digital processes and ways of communicating with customers. Geoff Duke imagines a leaner more nimble organisation with less reliance on manual processes and people driving around Australia to better facilitate their business growth and empower their employees to exceed sales goals.  You have been requested to prepare a report by the CEO Geoff Duke.  Your target audience is executive business people, who have extensive business experience.  It is important to achieve well in this assignment that you discuss your project in particular not projects in general.     In your role as a project manager, you have been asked to deliver a report that outlines a proposed project selection process and your prioritisation; deliver a project charter for one, outline the project organisation; and develop a stakeholder analysis and communication plan.
